    Another one for scrap ,the retained fire crews in rural areas should get the scrap value because of the number of farm vehicles that go up in flames at harvest time Fire suppression and better cooling ,that combines working temperature is high added to the hot weather is an insurance claim waiting to happen and why don’t farmer have a water bowser handy to support fire crews who only carry up to 500 gals of water The majority of machines are lost before the fire brigade is called because of there design 🙈

      There was a hydraulic warning and power loss as the fire was first notice so you can take what you want from that. There has been no definitive conclusion proved so everything is speculation.

    The fact that agri-business tolerates this is just incredible to me. Everyone's insurance costs will keep increasing due to this yet nothing is done to make a meaningful design change. Everyone just accepts that equipment costing well over six figures apiece might just erupt in flames during operations at any time and be written off.

    • @izalman
      @izalman 2 роки тому

      Perhaps if the insurers refused cover on the product it would force the manufacturer to sell the product with insurance built in. They would then cover the loss risk

    • @puirYorick
      @puirYorick 2 роки тому

      @@izalman ...or just address the known issues that increase fire risk in these machines and mitigate them instead of letting the buyer shoulder the costs. Imagine designing a supercar with a greater than average risk of the engine compartment catching fire if the car is used continually for longer than half an hour because there wasn't space in the current design for properly-sized cooling... Oh wait - I think such cars DO exist. But, I won't mention any names.

    So why do large bulldozers, Cat, Komatsu etc have an internal fire surpressent systems built in to the machines, but combines only have a hand held extinguisher? Surely, working in such dangerous hot and dry conditions, were a mear flint stone could start a fire, would this be an advantage to saving such a valuable piece of machinery?

    • @forcesfarming8511
      @forcesfarming8511 2 роки тому

      The problem with these machines is the heat and fire build up in the smallest of spaces. Often tiny embers start a fire that is then spread throughout the dry material and into the cleaning system. The cleaning system is full of moving air that fans the flames. Add to this the hot hydraulic oil running all through the pipes it’s impossible to build a system that works. I used to work with the design teams at John Deere. We looked at this. It’s too expensive and complicated sadly.

    • @izalman
      @izalman 2 роки тому

      @@forcesfarming8511 Utter rubbish about it being too complicated.. Big opencast mining equipment 5 times the price of your JD combines are protected. A well designed fire suppression system would deal with this. Perhaps if JD, Claas and others designed out 'hot spots' this would happen infrequently.

      With the year we're having climate-wise, why don't farmers have a vacuum tanker of water sat ready in the field wherever they're combining...?

    • @izalman
      @izalman Рік тому

      @@_Ben4810 I've seen something close.. several poly cubes of water on a tractor & trailer parked at he edge of the field when being harvested, how they would get the water out wasn't clear at all. The Vac tanker is a good idea. but by the time the combine driver legged it over to it the machine would be destroyed anyway. A solution is decent on board fire extinguishing system or better still. Best solution is the manufactures engineer the problem out of the machine. But then they would loose the sale of a new machine next season.
